Fall 2024

Div. 50 Education and Training Committee

Continuing education is an important activity for psychologists. Beyond being a requirement for Licensed Psychologists, continuing education contributes to lifelong learning and development. Further, continuing education allows practitioners to remain connected and up to date on emerging science related to helping individuals overcome their addictions. Thus, continuing education can be a great strategy to help bridge the science to practice gap!

The Society of Addiction Psychology’s Education and Training Committee has a strong commitment to offering continuing education initiatives. Many of you have seen advertised on the listserv various continuing education opportunities offered through TPN.Health that are provided at no cost to members. These opportunities offer society members the chance to gain knowledge of cutting-edge issues and interventions in addiction psychology. Members are encouraged not only to attend these free events but to also consider providing a continuing education presentation.
The Collaborative Perspective on Addictions (CPA) conference is another opportunity for attending and providing continuing education! As many of you are finalizing symposia and panel discussions for CPA we encourage you to offer your presentation as a continuing education event. At CPA, our mission is to foster dissemination of addiction science to practitioners, educators, and researchers.  By offering your CPA presentations as a continuing education event, you will help the Society of Addiction Psychology provide diverse opportunities for education and learning. Thus, by offering your presentations as continuing education you are giving back to the Society.

For more information on providing continuing education training through TPN.Health platform to a large audience (usually 50-150 people) of psychologists and other mental health practitioners (e.g., social workers, mental health counselors, addiction professionals) please contact Dr. Nicole Karst (nicolekarst8404@gmail.com), Chair of the Outreach and Dissemination Committee.

We encourage you to offer your CPA presentation as continuing education, please click on the CE application link in the conference submission portal. You will need to supply brief descriptions of your presentations, learning objectives, list 3-5 supporting references, and provide presenter CVs. You can email Dr. Ellen Vaughan (elvaugha@iu.edu) Chair of the Education and Training Committee with questions.

Thank you!
