Open Rank Tenure-Track Faculty Position
Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Penn State College of Medicine
Division of Addiction Psychiatry
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, at Penn State College of Medicine/Penn State Hershey Medical Center, is seeking candidates for a tenure-track, open-rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) faculty position, co-funded by the Penn State University Social Science Research Institute (SSRI http://ssri.psu.edu), focused on clinical research related to the translation, implementation, or dissemination of treatments for substance use disorders. The expected start date is Fall 2023. A doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or medical degree (M.D. and/or D.O.) in psychiatry, clinical psychology, or related fields is required.
The successful candidate will join a growing Department that is home to or affiliated with several substance use disorders research and treatment programs, including the Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Division in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, the Consortium on Substance Use and Addiction (CSUA http://csua.ssri.psu.edu), and the Penn State Addiction Center for Translation (PS ACT https://research.med.psu.edu/addiction/). The SUD Division and the CSUA include faculty and resources that cover the full clinical-translational spectrum. The SUD Division has established fruitful research and educational collaborations with several addiction prevention and treatment programs in Central Pennsylvania. Locations for current and potential clinical research include an outpatient Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute and outpatient office-based medication programs for opioid and alcohol use disorders. The OTP is currently funded by NIH, SAMHSA, and NIDA and is networked with 15 office-based programs across five counties. In addition, Penn State is part of the Appalachian Node within the NIDA-funded Clinical Trials Network, both proposing and conducting multi-site national trials within the Network. Faculty members collaborate with peer-recovery networks on numerous projects, including outcome studies. With Penn State’s commitment to, and investment in, research on substance use disorders, this position is an outstanding opportunity for an early-career or seasoned leader in the field.
Preference will be given to applicants with a clear track record of (senior faculty) or potential for (junior faculty) external funding. In addition to developing an externally funded research program, the successful candidate is expected to publish, contribute to teaching and mentoring of M.D. and Ph.D. students and fellows, provide service to the profession, and support the mission of the Department, College, and University. Preference will also be given to applicants with a demonstrated ability to participate in interdisciplinary research collaborations across the department and across the university.
