Bridging the Gap: Digital Innovation in Addiction Psychology

Submit by January 8th, 2025

On behalf of the 2025 SoAP program committee, we’re excited to let all Division 50- SoAP members know that the 2025 APA Convention Call for Proposals is now open!

Please join us and showcase your work on psychology’s biggest platform at the APA Convention, August 7-9, in Denver, CO!

This year, the program committee is seeking proposals on research and clinical advances addressing the Division 50 President’s theme of “Bridging the Gap: Digital Innovation in Addiction Psychology.”

We particularly encourage submission of programming for the 2025 APA Convention that include topics such as:

  • Digital health interventions for addiction prevention and treatment, including apps, telehealth, and digital therapeutics.
  • Technological innovations that improve access to addiction care and resources, especially in underserved communities.
  • Policy, ethical, and clinical frameworks for integrating digital tools into addiction psychology to address health equity and reduce barriers.
  • Data-driven approaches in addiction research, utilizing AI, machine learning, and big data to identify and address disparities.
  • Community-centered digital tools that promote engagement, support, and tailored interventions for individuals affected by substance use.
  • Implementation science and dissemination research to evaluate the real-world impact of digital health innovations in addiction.
  • Transdisciplinary approaches that leverage digital tools in collaborative efforts across psychology, healthcare, technology, and public health.

We know many of you reading this have shaped the last decade+ of work in this area, and many early career addiction psychologists are continuing this work and making strides. We hope you will all come out and share your wisdom at APA 2025!

Submit your proposal by January 8, 2025, and join us in exploring how digital innovation is transforming addiction psychology.

Convention Proposal Submission details:

  • Proposals for symposia, poster presentations, data blitz, discussion sessions, and skill-building sessions will be considered. Individual paper presentations will not be considered.
  • All symposium/discussion submitters are strongly encouraged to apply for Continuing Education review when submitting.
  • The division offers numerous merit-based travel awards for students and early career psychologists.
  • Priority will be given to proposals that best fit this year’s theme
