Postdoctoral position to study alcohol interactions with neuroinflammation across the lifespan in the Behavioral Neuroscience Program, Department of Psychology, at BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY-SUNY (Binghamton, NY).
A Post-doctoral Research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Terrence Deak to investigate the mechanisms by which alcohol-dependent neuroinflammation during early development and late aging contribute to negative affective states (stress, anxiety) and long-lasting effects of alcohol on glial-neuronal interactions. Expertise in advanced neuroanatomical procedures (stereotaxic surgery, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, image analysis, etc); molecular approaches toward understanding the neurobiology of aging; slice electrophysiology; and/or circuit-level regulation of behavioral processes are particularly desirable. The successful candidate should be highly motivated to submit independent career grants (F, K awards), demonstrate unquestionable scientific integrity, and be able to work productively in a collaborative and diverse group. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must. More information regarding Dr. Deak’s laboratory and ongoing projects can be found on the lab website at: https://sites.google.com/a/
This postdoctoral position will offer standard NIH salary levels and employee benefits from The Research Foundation at Binghamton University-SUNY. Eligible candidates have the possibility of being appointed to an NIH-funded T32 training grant and becoming affiliate members of the Developmental Exposure Alcohol Research Center (DEARC), a P50 Center funded by NIAAA and located at Binghamton University. Appointment to the T32 training grant requires candidates to be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident. More information on the DEARC and T32 is available at: https://www.binghamton.edu/
