Postdoctoral, Graduate Student and a Project Coordinator Position in Advanced Quantitative Methods at Purdue

Postdoctoral Fellow Positions in Advanced Quantitative Methods at Purdue University Department of Psychological Sciences

Drs. Erin Hennes and Sean Lane in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University invite applications for two full-time postdoctoral fellow positions in advanced quantitative methods. These positions are part of a five-year NIH-funded interdisciplinary project developing improved methods for statistical power analysis. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for additional years based on satisfactory performance. The postdoctoral fellows will interact with both Principal Investigators but should indicate their desired primary affiliation in clinical psychology, social psychology, or mathematical and computational cognitive science.

Minimum Qualifications:
-PhD (or equivalent) in Psychology, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field conferred by the expected start date
-Substantial quantitative expertise in one or more of the following areas: general(ized) linear (mixed) models, structural equation models, and/or other modeling techniques; data simulation; optimization; programming; machine learning; software development

Preferred Qualifications:
-Familiarity with the R software environment
-Expertise in psychological research methods, meta-analysis, generalizability theory, randomized controlled trials, and/or alcohol use disorder
-Substantive research interests related to those of the PIs are helpful but not necessary: social justice, political psychology, biased information processing, and/or intergroup relations (Hennes); emotion, close relationships, substance use, and/or mood/personality disorders (Lane)

Graduate Student Positions in Advanced Quantitative Methods at Purdue University Department of Psychological Sciences

These positions are part of a five-year NIH-funded interdisciplinary project developing improved methods for statistical power analysis. The graduate students will interact with both Principal Investigators but must indicate their desired primary affiliation and advisor by applying specifically to the social psychology (Hennes), clinical psychology (Lane), or mathematical and computational cognitive science program (Lane). Graduate students will be expected to conduct substantive research appropriate for their graduate training program.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Psychology, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field

Project Coordinator Position in Advanced Quantitative Methods at Purdue University Department of Psychological Sciences

Responsibilities Include:
The project coordinator will assist in the coordination of all research activities across all project personnel, such as supervision of undergraduate research assistants, manuscript preparation, budget management, IRB, website maintenance, and meeting scheduling. The project coordinator will also be encouraged to collaborate on or develop their own research on topics of relevance to this project or to the Principal Investigators’ substantive research if desired.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Effective in managing teams and multitasking across multiple projects
-High level of commitment to professionalism, ethics, and integrity
-Conscientious, self-motivated, responsive, and outstanding attention to detail
-Background in psychology, statistics, computer science, or a related field
-Interest in advanced quantitative methods
-Substantive research interests related to those of the PIs are helpful but not necessary: social justice, political psychology, motivated information processing, environmental psychology, and/or intergroup relations (Hennes); emotion, close relationships, substance use, and/or mood/personality disorders (Lane)
