The Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, a unit of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), invites applications for a faculty position in behavioral health with population health research experience or training. The chosen candidates will be expected to conduct scholarly research in the areas of psychiatry or psychology in adult and/or child and adolescent populations, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, addiction medicine, public mental health and/or special patient populations such as immigrant populations, incarcerated populations, among others. Candidates are required to have a proven track record of success in producing high-quality scholarly work, in addition to excellence in teaching/mentorship and established expertise in their respective field. Possible candidates could include, but are not limited to, psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychiatrists, and neuropsychologists. In addition, applicants with perspectives from clinical medicine, public health, medicine, nursing, sociology, or other related fields in addition to geography are encouraged to apply.
 
Candidates must have a strong interest in building a population health research portfolio working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary group of social scientists, behavioral scientist, economists, clinicians and policy scholars and a track record or high potential for federal funding.
 
The successful candidate will develop a program of research in any of a number of potential areas of research in behavioral health as noted above, but also foster collaborations including, but not limited to, health disparity and health equity, aging/gerontology, trauma exposure, violence, biopsychosocial behaviors in prevention and treatment, chronic disease management and health outcomes, and evaluation of health policy and delivery system initiatives. Research addressing population health, translational scientific research, and the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups is highly desirable
 
Minimum Education and Experience
A doctoral or equivalent degree in psychology, psychiatry, internal medicine, nursing, neuropsychology, public health, sociology, demography, policy or equivalent are strongly suggested. A strong theoretical grounding and quantitative and/or qualitative research skills with excellent oral and written communication skills to support developing a rigorous program of research is expected. A demonstrated record of successfully competing for research grants is desirable. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed in the Institute for Health with tenure-track or tenured appointment within an appropriate Rutgers school or department with teaching, clinical, and/or mentoring responsibilities. Promising faculty will have substantial protected time do conduct interdisciplinary and translational research in an environment that is conducive for success. IFH has a strong history of training talented and eager faculty and trainees to success. Opportunity exists for appointment as a Chancellor's Scholar or endowed chair position as well as protective efforts and support during the early years of hire. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with scholarly achievements including funded research and publication record, as well as other relevant professional experience. Initial support for establishing a strong program of research will be provided with the expectation that the research program will be increasingly supported by extramural funds.
 
Overview
The Institute for Health, RBHS, and the substantial resources of Rutgers University offer a rich collaborative environment for conducting research in health disparity and health equity. IFH is the home to NIA funded P30 RCMAR center grant focus on health disparity, behavioral health and trauma exposure. RBHS is home to Rutgers Health Group, New Jersey's largest multi-specialty medical group that includes the state's only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, a large behavioral health delivery system (UBHC, UCHC), and Robert Wood Johnson Partners, a commercial and Medicare ACO. RBHS partners with RWJBarnabas Health, the state's largest healthcare delivery system. Research among these units expands considerably the opportunities for this position.
 
The Institute for Health has faculty and other researchers with considerable expertise in the health disparity and health equity research, social and clinical sciences, health research and policy, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, and related fields. The faculty have exceptional capacity to address the most pressing health and healthcare challenges. Considerable expertise exists in the analysis of large, integrated health-related clinical and administrative datasets, national surveys, Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance data with the application of social science theory and advanced statistical techniques.
