Have you heard of the NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs)? Each year, these programs help to repay educational loan debt of thousands of researchers across this country! If you meet the basic LRP eligibility criteria, you may be eligible to be a recipient of the many benefits of this program.
The NIH LRPs are a set of programs established by Congress designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers. By the time many researchers have completed their education and training, they have amassed a significant amount of student loan debt – which is a major deterrent for researchers to begin or sustain a research career versus seeking career alternatives (which are often higher-paying). The LRPs counteract that financial pressure by repaying up to $35,000 annually ($70,000 over a two-year contract)of a researcher's qualifying educational debt in return for a commitment to engage in research areas important to the mission of NIH.
The NIH LRPs will begin accepting applications September 1 – November 15, 2018, so NOW is the time to learn more about the programs and begin your application.
