 The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is actively recruiting a full-time licensed therapist (PhD/PsyD/LCSW/LMFT/LPCC) within USC Student Health/Counseling and Mental Health (CMH) to join a diverse and dynamic multidisciplinary team who are strongly committed to providing excellent clinical treatment, training, and outreach services regarding mental health and wellness. We are specifically seeking a licensed therapist with expertise in addictions/substance use disorders and candidates who have strong clinical skills, are familiar with the duties associated with a university counseling center, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, collegial, professional environment.

 Description of Counseling and Mental Health (CMH)
USC Student Health provides a comprehensive campus health program including mental health services, medical services, prevention and health promotion, health communications, the student health insurance plan, and public health services to improve the health of the USC population. Mental Health services support students so that they may achieve their academic and personal goals through the Department of Psychiatry’s Counseling and Mental Health Division (CMH). CMH services include: individual, couples and group counseling; assessment and referral to other professionals and institutions; crisis intervention (including some after-hours coverage); biofeedback; psychiatric evaluations and medication follow-up; consultation; outreach and prevention; and training and supervision. 

 CMH provides mental health services to students so that they may achieve their academic and personal goals. Services we provide include: individual and group counseling; assessment and referral to other professionals and institutions; crisis intervention (including some after-hours coverage); case management; biofeedback; psychiatric evaluations and medication follow-up; consultation; outreach and prevention; and training and supervision.

 Training is an important function in CMH. We are committed to providing professional training opportunities for trainees in psychology, social work, and medicine (med students and residents). Position Description

Under the direction of the CMH Director, this clinician/therapist will:

·Provide evidence-based, trauma-informed, and multiculturally-affirming psychological interventions to USC students, including individual assessment and diagnostic sessions, short term counseling/ treatment, group therapy, routine and urgent intake, crisis intervention, referral, triage, case consultation, third party consultation, and after hours coverage to USC students via telehealth.

§  This includes up to 26 hours per week of direct patient care (28 if the therapist does not supervise trainees) and 9 scheduled hours for timely documentation of clinical activities.

·Engage in department-wide substance abuse initiatives.

·Supervise interns and practicum students.

·Present didactic training in seminars for social work, marriage & family therapy, and psychology practicum interns on theories, interventions, or diagnoses.

·Provide psycho-educational workshops to USC faculty, staff, and students.

·Collaborate and consult with other mental health providers, service providers, and campus and community partners.

·Cover on-call emergencies, as assigned. Faculty rotate backup coverage, being the second on call to the Proto-Call service.

·Attend weekly multidisciplinary faculty and staff meetings.

·Attend and contribute to various CMH, Student Health, Psychiatry Department and campus meetings, fostering educational objectives and a consultative collegial environment.

·Participate in yearly merit review and performance evaluations, peer review, quality improvement activities, and other unit, departmental, and division teams and committees.

·Attend Psychiatry Department Grand Rounds, Social Justice Forums, and Department Matters meetings; as well as Student Health all-staff meetings.

·Serve on committees, as desired/assigned.

 

This is a full-time faculty position with an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and clinical service assignment in Counseling and Mental Health. Salary is competitive and contingent on experience. Minimum Qualifications:

·Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or Master’s degree in Social Work,

Marriage & Family Therapy, or Counseling from an accredited program.

·Licensed in the state of California.

·Experience in short term treatment, including brief psychotherapy, stabilization and referral of serious mental illness, and crisis intervention.

·Multicultural competency in working with students of color, students from all economic classes, first generation students, LGBTQ students, and international students.

·Resilient, self-aware, and can thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

·Effectively works in a highly diverse and multicultural student population and LGBTQ affirmative environment.

·Commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice and to professional integrity.

·Desire to continue to grow as a professional and committed to excellence and lifelong learning.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·Certification or specialized training in substance use and/or addictions

·Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and skills in group process work and training.

·Excellent diagnostic skills and knowledge of DSM5

·Experience working with university students, LGBTQIA populations, and international students.

·Experience working with issues encountered in early and emerging adulthood, including identity issues (e.g., sexual identity, gender identity, racial/ethnic identity, etc.), sexual trauma, eating disorders, and substance use disorders.

·Experience providing mental health care remotely via telehealth platforms.

·Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and skills in group process work and training

·Experience and commitment to working with minoritized individuals.

·Interest and skill in an integrated approach to care.

·Additional language skills are welcome.
