Free SoAP Clinical Conference Call: 2/7: When CBT doesn't work, with Bruce Liese, Ph.D. ABPP

News Date: Monday, February 3, 2020 - 17:45

We’re happy to announce the first SoAP Clinical Conference Call of 2020, THIS FRIDAY, 2/7/2020. We’re happy to once again be presenting Dr. Bruce Liese, former President of SoAP, and a stalwart of our division. His prior presentations have been enthusiastically received and well attended, and we’re glad to have him back with us. Bruce will be presenting on: What to consider when cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) isn't working. Here’s a description

Although Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an "evidence-based" approach, even experienced and skillful cognitive-behavioral therapists understand from experience that CBT doesn't always work. The purpose of this clinical conference call is to focus on CBT processes and content in order to identify common, often undetected, problems in the provision of CBT. We consider various potential reasons for treatment failure without blaming the patient. We discuss structure, collaboration, case conceptualization, psychoeducation, and techniques, as well as potential problems that often occur in each of these areas.

Bruce S. Liese, PhD, ABPP is Professor of Family Medicine and Psychiatry and Clinical Director of the Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment at the University of Kansas.  Dr. Liese has more than 75 publications and he has co-authored two texts with Dr. Aaron Beck. In 2015 Dr. Liese received the Distinguished Career Contributions to Education and Training award from APA Division 50 as recognition for his excellence in teaching and his deep commitment to education.

Please join us for this important discussion. As always, there is no fee to participate and no need to pre-register. Please feel free to disseminate this announcement to any interested parties. Slides will be distributed later in the week to those who are already on the official distribution list, and anyone else who so requests.
