Andrew Tatarsky, PhD, Sheila Vakharia, PhD, MSW and Scott Kellogg, PhD
October 17 | New Orleans, LA
This training will offer a framework for working with substance use based on principles of Compassionate Pragmatism. There will be an introduction to Integrative Harm Reduction Psychotherapy (IHRP) and its Seven Therapeutic Tasks. IHRP is a treatment for individuals struggling with addictive and risky behavior, trauma and other mental health issues.
An alternative to the abstinence-only approach, IHRP incorporates psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and body-oriented practices to treat the broad spectrum of addictive behaviors. In addition, there will be a focus on multicultural perspectives in harm reduction therapy and how to tailor services to provide truly personalized care.
The Transformational Chairwork module will include an emphasis on therapeutic dialogues and use of Chairwork to enhance motivation for change and promote self-compassion. Participants will gain a theoretical understanding of harm reduction therapy along with practical skills that can be applied across a range of settings.
