Title: Enhancing your clinical skills with insights from cognitive science
Presenter: Bruce Liese, Ph.D., ABPP
Program Description: Many individuals with addictive disorders seek psychotherapy. In this talk, salient constructs associated with both psychotherapy and cognitive science (e.g., executive functions, judgement, heuristics, dual processes, bias, problem-solving, decision-making, expertise, intuition) are described and applied to patients and therapists. It is assumed that an in-depth and evidence-based understanding of these constructs has the potential to enhance clinical skillfulness. Clinical scenarios are presented throughout to demonstrate the application of these constructs to real-world practice.
