Cooper University Hospital (CUH) is located in Camden, NJ directly across the river from Philadelphia, PA. We are part of a healthcare system that has over 100 medical offices and clinics and 3 urgent care centers as well as a reputable medical school, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU). We serve the Camden urban area as well as the suburban areas surrounding the city; additionally, many community hospitals in rural parts of the state transfer patients to Cooper for an escalation of care and expertise. We are the only Level 1 trauma center in southern NJ serving a population of two million. Cooper has recently engaged in a collaboration with our Southern NJ neighbors at Cape Regional as well.

The Cooper Center for Healing is an integrated center that provides innovative, compassionate care for patients with SUD, pain, trauma, and psychiatric disorders. The center's medical specialists in addiction medicine, toxicology, emergency medicine (EM) and emergency medical services (EMS), internal medicine, family medicine, and psychiatry provide interdisciplinary specialty care in the hospital, ambulatory, and community settings. The center also has a robust interdisciplinary clinical team of behavioral health clinicians, nurses, and navigator specialists who offer wraparound services to patients in a biopsychosocial model, including helping them to address social determinants of health (SDOH).

Primary Psychologist Role:
  *   Clinical: Psychologist will provide psychological assessment, consultation and psychotherapeutic intervention for individual and groups in both the inpatient hospital and outpatient ambulatory settings. They will work on interdisciplinary teams including APP’s, residents and medical students in appropriate patient care. The psychologist will engage in psychotherapeutic interventions rooted in evidence-based interventions.  They will lead and/or co-facilitate psychoeducational groups; provide professional presentations as requested (staff in-service, Grand Rounds, medical school, etc.).   This position will provide psychological assessment as appropriate to assess mood, behavior, and cognitive functioning. They will participate in resident teaching and ensuring that residents can utilize various brief measures including CDQ, MMSE, MoCA, HADS, etc. to assist in assessment.
  *   Administration: This individual will support growth and expansion of addiction services for our patient population. They will maintain timely, comprehensive, clinical notes in EMR; provide psychological reports for assessment cases and maintain NJ licensure. They are expected to participate in weekly team meetings during dedicated administrative time.
  *   Teaching: The psychologist will receive an appointment at CMSRU based upon previous academic, research and clinical experience. The individual must meet the requirement and fulfill teaching duties at the specific professorship level, lecture medical student courses; participate in supervision for medical students at CUH as needed for varying coursework at CMSRU, present for cooperative programs within CUH (including departmental Grand Rounds), and outside of CUH when requested
  *   Research: The individual is expected to use protected time to assist in creating and engaging in behavioral health research related to dual diagnosis and addiction medicine services; initiating new projects, working toward procurement of internal and external grant-funding; participate in professional presentations at national conferences; and work towards publication of behavioral health research.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  *   Clinical role with direct patient care. Maintains an active caseload of patients presenting with a wide range of symptomatology focused on a brief intervention model. Provides patient assessment, intervention and psychotherapy, develop treatment plans, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and make recommendations for patients and colleagues as needed. Use of appropriate empirically validated interventions.

  *   Opportunity to identify need for group-based interventions and implement groups in these areas.
  *   Identifies gaps in psychological programming and recommend and implement solutions.
  *   Develops original presentations and trainings on addictions-focused psychological care as needed to cover areas such as CBT, MI, ACT, and DBT skills to interdisciplinary team members.
  *   Opportunity to engage in weekly didactics and group supervision with Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine teams, as able.
  *   Develops meaningful and effective relationships with leadership, medical attending leadership, advanced practice providers, and administrative leads in all areas. Engages in regular communication and coordination with all.
  *   Participates in on-going behavioral health research; initiation of new projects, works toward procurement of internal and external grant-funding; participation in professional presentation at national conferences; works toward publication of research.
  *   Opportunity for engagement with Cooper’s APA-accredited psychology internship program, the C.A.R.E. team hospital well-being program, as well as a variety of other committees across the Cooper and CMSRU community.

Education, Experience and Special Requirements:
  *   Psy.D./Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, with experience in a wide range of mental health issues including serious mental illness, addiction medicine, dual diagnosis
  *   Must be licensed or license eligible in New Jersey
  *   Excellent oral and written communication skills
  *   Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment
  *   Ability to work in collaboration with multidisciplinary medical team
  *   Strong organizational and management skills
