The incumbent serves as a part-time (0.5FTE) Mental Health Clinic (MHC) Staff Psychologist at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital and member of the Hines Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). Responsibilities involve Mental Health (MH) assessment and intervention within Hines’ MHC and to its Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), and professional consultation services throughout the Mental Health Service Line (MHSL) and associated specialty MH coverage areas.  The Psychologist will provide a full range of proactive, integrated, comprehensive outpatient MH care that is recovery oriented and evidence-based, including: screening and assessing for psychopathology, cognitive deficits and problematic health behaviors; brief, short-term, and long-term psychotherapy in individual, couples, and group formats; and supportive therapy services for Veterans requiring a lower level of care and/or longer term assistance. Mental health assessment and treatment services will be provided in both face-to-face and telemental health modalities, and will emphasize evidence-based and best practice approaches.  The individual will also provide education regarding a Veteran-centered recovery model, and work with Veterans to help set SMART therapy goals and work towards recovery and discharge to a lower level of care.  Professional consultation will be provided to BHIP interdisciplinary team members to support their care of BHIP patients, thereby improving coordination of care and continuity of care.  This individual will function as a full member of both his/her BHIP team and the larger MHC and provide ongoing team consultation services to other BHIP and associated team members.

The incumbent also serves as a part-time (0.5FTE) staff psychologist in the Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SARRTP) at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital.  The program provides specialized, complex, highly professional substance use disorder treatment services to patients enrolled in SARRTP.  Responsibilities involve specialized skills in assessment, education, and interventions relating to treatment of substance-use disorder.  The Psychologist will provide a full range of psychological services to Veterans enrolled in the residential program but may also provide substance-use disorder services to Veterans enrolled in the outpatient Addiction Treatment Program (ATP) or Mental Health Clinic (MHC).  The Psychologist will provide evidence-based psychotherapies for the treatment of substance-use disorder conditions, participate in program evaluation and consultation within and outside the program, and may provide services via Telemental health modalities.  The incumbent will also participate in psychology service and/or other hospital committees as needed.
