Friends Community Center (FCC) is the Los Angeles-based community research division of Friends Research Institute (FRI), a private, non-profit research organization. FRI is accepting applications at the Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist level to help sustain and expand the research agenda and service delivery at FCC. FRI is seeking a highly qualified mid- to senior-level candidate who has an established research career in the areas of:

  • HIV prevention and care,

  • mental health disorders,

  • social and structural health disparities, and

  • community-based participatory research.

Applicants must hold an M.D. or a Ph.D. in psychology, sociology, public health, epidemiology or related fields, and will be expected to obtain and maintain a scientifically rigorous research portfolio as an independent investigator through federal, state, county, and city funding. The successful candidate will be provided guidance regarding FCC’s operations in order to assume a leadership role in overseeing the research, administrative, fiscal, programmatic, and personnel responsibilities of the community research site.

Setting: FCC is located in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles County; we work with sexual and gender minority populations experiencing multiple health disparities. Most participants are current substance users engaged in exchange sex, have episodes of incarceration, experience housing and food instability, many have mental health disorders and most are racial/ethnic minorities. FCC implements both social services and research studies. Based on funding, staff size ranges from 20 to 30, and includes peer interventionists, bachelors- and masters-level research coordinators, and Ph.D.-level researchers.
