The Society of Addiction Psychology (APA Division 50) Outreach & Dissemination Committee is pleased to announce that Friday, June 11th, at 1pm EST, Edward Reading, PhD will be presenting at our bi-monthly Clinical Teleconference.
PRESENTATION TITLE: SPIRITUALITY IN ADDICTION COUNSELING
DESCRIPTION: Dr Reading will present an integrated and holistic model of assessment counseling that deals with the symptoms of:
--intellectual health, and
Dr Reading will address symptoms of health, rather than symptoms of illness. His model is useful for helping clients, clinical interns, and seasoned therapists who hope to develop their comfort level with spiritual assessment and counseling. His model is appropriate to both theists and non-theists, and is not dependent upon traditional or postmodern religious traditions.
PRESENTER: Dr Ed Reading concurrently serves as both an ordained Catholic Priest and as a practicing addiction therapist. Much of his practice has focused on working with medical and dental professionals. He also has taught in professional training programs at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ, Rutgers School of Addiction Studies, NJ State Police Academy (Advanced Narcotics Course), Clinical Pastoral Education Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He was one of the first non-physicians invited for membership in ASAM. He is a past president and current board member of the International Coalition of Addiction Studies Educators (INCASE). Dr Reading currently serves as the vice chair of the New Jersey Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners. He also chairs the New Jersey Board Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee.
