Call for JSAT Editorial Fellow

News Date: Monday, March 6, 2023 - 10:30

Please see attached call and below for two JSAT Editorial Fellow openings. Applications are due by April 3, 2023.

Applications are now being accepted for the JSAT Editorial Fellowship Program. Supported by Elsevier and JSAT, the Fellowship is a two-year experience to begin in July 2023. We seek two Fellows for July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2025. The honorarium for the Fellowship is $1,000 per year for each Fellow, and the experience accrued will support future involvement in the editorial side of scientific publishing. For example, previous Editorial Fellows have become Editorial Board Members, Associate Editors, and even Editor-In-Chief of JSAT. Fellows will participate in approximately bi-weekly video calls with the Editors both individually and as an editorial team. The approach will be practical, with a focus on manuscript critique, the ethics of authorship and review, and how to combine and synthesize conflicting reviews into a constructive decision. Each Fellow will be expected to advance twelve to fifteen papers through the editorial process from submission to review to publication decision. The workload should not take longer than 1–2 hours per week. The Fellowship should result in a superb knowledge of contemporary electronic scientific publication, as well as improved skills in writing, editing and manuscript preparation.

The ideal applicant would be a person in an early to middle phase of their academic or research career, with superb communication and organizational skills, and a track record indicating a commitment to substance use treatment research.

Applicants should send via email to Emily Babson, Managing Editor (ewbabson@gmail.com):

1) a one-page letter to the Editor expressing interest in the Fellowship, describing any previous experience with JSAT as an author or reviewer, and indicating how the Fellowship will fit into career plans; 2) a curriculum vitae; and 3) a writing sample, preferably a published article. Questions should be directed to Dr. Peter Friedmann, Editor-In-Chief (Peter.Friedmann@baystatehealth.org). Applications are due by April 3, 2023. The editorial team will make final decisions, in time for a July 2023 start.
